Terrace Youth Residential Services, INC and Terrace Youth Wellness Centre, offer respite services to children and adolescents. Services can be referred by community organizations or by parents seeking out support to deal with children with special needs.
Respite is quite simply an opportunity for parents and caregivers to receive a break, and to rest and rejuvenate from the daily demands related to caregiving. TYRS, INC can provide support to parents and caregivers for their preschool, school aged and / or adolescents. TYRS, INC specializes in providing services to youth suffering from symptoms related to autism, ADD/ ADHD, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, mental health issues, disruptive behaviour, family dynamics, and educational struggles. Respite is provided by trained staff, who specialize in crisis interventions, trauma sensitive approaches and Collaborative Problem Solving, a method which empowers youth to make positive decisions.

About our Respite Care Providers
Our respite staff are caring and committed individuals with an educational background in a related field of study, such as Child and Youth Workers, Developmental Service Workers, Social Service workers, Early Childhood Educators, and Social Workers. Respite workers also possess diplomas in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Trauma Assessment training, Attachment Theory, Suicide Intervention, and Collaborative Problem Solving.
All respite care workers submit a Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector as well as a Child Welfare Check, completed by the local Children’s Aid Society. Respite workers also provide verification that they have current First Aid and CPR.
Terrace Youth Residential Services has been providing a full spectrum of services to youth and children since 1998 in the Ottawa-Carleton Region. In addition to providing difficult children and youth the opportunity to grow within a home like atmosphere, specialized services are a component of the programs. Some of the specialized services include: Individual/Group Therapy, Life Skills and Social Skills. These residents also make full use of our community based services, including medical, personal, recreational, and educational needs.
Founded in 2014, the Terrace Youth Wellness Centre is a private company that operates as a children’s mental health centre and offers a broad range of integrated assessment and therapeutic services for children/youth aged 3 to 18 years and their families experiencing intensive and/or chronic mental health issues.
The Centre’s management staff have over 35 years of combined experience specializing in responding to the social, emotional and behavioural issues faced by children/youth and their families in Ontario.
The Centre will acts as a one-stop-shop that provides comprehensive 360º mental health care solutions and customized wraparound services that address the critical needs of families without access to overloaded public services.
Specifically, the Centre’s services include mental health and clinical services, education programs and respite services to youth aged 3 to 18 years (including those with developmental disabilities) in Eastern Ontario with a particular geographical focus on Ottawa, Lanark County, Renfrew County, Leeds Grenville, and Cornwall.
Terrace Youth Residential Services, INC., operates foster care licenced under Bryce Group Home, and has offered foster care services since 2000, and has expanded
services to include the provision of parent model programs. Foster care beds are available across the region, serving males and females of all ages. Parent model programs offer staff support, up to a maximum of 40 hours per week, and regular foster care beds are supported by a Child and Youth Worker for approximately six hours weekly. All foster care programs focus on the individual needs of each youth, and allow for integration into a family like setting. Clients in our foster care system have access to TYRS’ psychiatrist, are assessed based on CAFAS (Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale), and receive clinical services and support from TYRS’ clinician.
